Why both heat and work appear on surface only ?

That is the result of work done by electrical energy against the resistance force of copper. So, this is actually work done but we experience that as another form of energy which is heat and that too when it crosses the boundary of system i.e., the layer of insulation.

Heat and work appears on the surface only:

Let’s consider electrical wiring in house, the thickness insulation of these wire plays significant role for dissipation of generation of heat.

Now the copper wires in the insulation don’t get heated as of temperature difference of copper and air. That is the consequence of work done by electrical energy contrary to the resistance force of copper.

So, this is essentially work done but we practice that as another form of energy which is heat and that too when it crosses the boundary of system i.e., the coating of insulation.

This example shows that heat and work are experienced while crossing the boundaries or transitions. So that’s the reason that heat and work appear on the surface only.
