Why both the strands of DNA are not copied during transcription?

Each gene is only encoded on one strand-sense strand.The complimentary strand -Antisense strand is actually used as a template for building mRNA(messsenger Ribo Nucleic Acid).Different genes may be encoded on opposite strandsand may even overlap.and u can simply say that since RNA is single stranded.It only needs on one complementary strand
