Why branched haloalkane has lower boiling point than linear haloalkanes?

The branching to a linear structure imparts a spherical structure to the molecules. Just imagine that on a rope you have hanged a heavy weight, this will pull the rope downwards and impart a curvy appearance. The spherical shape minimizes the Vander waals force of attraction between the molecules, and hence decreasing the boiling point
