Why breathing and swallowing cannot occur simultaneously?

b/cz when we breath then glottis is open and food can move in the tracheal tube

epiglottis is the part of your body that flops down over the wind pipe when you swallo to keep food from going into your oesophagus and not into windpipe, so when we eat the epiglotis has closed the flap which means the path to windpipe is blocked and breathing cant performed.
