Great Britain is a geographical term describing the larger of the many isles in the area North of France between the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea. The two largest being Ireland and Great Britain.
Collectively these are referred to geographically as “The British Isles”. Note that this is a geographical term only and does note denote political dominion. Origins of the name Britain go back to the classical era of ancient Greek and Roman origins.
