Britishers used Indian farmers forgrowing raw materials which were taken to Britain for making finished products. They forced Indian farmers to grow commercial crops like tea, jute etc because these crops were highly demanded in their country.

As commercial crops costs more amount than the seasonal crops so this can bring more profit to the farmer. So, it was more profitable to grow commercial crops.
