Because a lot of glass is actually slightly green from trace metallic impurities when the glass is made, but the color is more obvious when you are seeing a thick amout of glass.
Colorless glass is more expensive to make.
Stained glass is glass with specific metals added on purpose to make different colors. For example, deep blue glass usually has added cobalt.

While most glass is tranparent when it's thin, the thicker glass gets, the more it takes on a green tinge. ... When thin, you don't notice any color, but as this ordinary glass gets thicker, it takes on a green tinge from the iron-oxide impurities which are common.
