The reactions which occur in the titration are basically the reduction of permanganate to Mn2+ and oxidation of oxalate to CO2 and H2O.This Mn2+(which imparts a very faint pink colour to the solution so is called a selfindicator) fomed,actually reacts with permanganate in acidic medium to form blackish brown MnO2 leading to the turbidity.The eqn is as follows,
