Brutus tells the citizens of rome that he loved Caesar but he loved Rome more. In the interest of rome, he had killed Caesar. His growing power had made him too ambitious. Had he become the dictator General of rome, every citizen would have become a slave, a bondman. so, he paid dearly with his life, for his ambitious, according to the idealist Brutus.
