Bryophytes are called amphibians amongst the plants because they live in damp areas as:
a). Plant body of bryophytes are devoid of vascular tissues, roots, etc. therefore they live in moist habitats in order to obtain water directly or through rhizoids and prevent desiccation.
b). Like amphibians of animal Kingdom, the sperms require an external supply of water for swimming and reaching the eggs for fertilizing the same.
