Heyyyyyy Well, two answers so far postulate that the CO2 in our breath smothers the flame. However, the highest concentration of CO2 occurs at the end of expiration, and it's only 5-6%. Two answers touched on a more likely reason: There is still a lot of oxygen in our breath. I suspect that the reason the flame goes out has something to do with the fuel-oxygen mixture. Most fuels burn in a narrow range of mixture, and blowing on the fuel might dilute the paraffin gas with too much oxygen for combustion.
