Why Calcium and Potassium don't contains more than 8 electrons in their M shell/orbit since the maximum electron containing power of M shell/orbit is 18?

if let assume that in calcium M shell is the outer most shell so their electronic configuration will be 2,8,10 which cannot because in the outer most shell only 8 electron can be accommodate so it will start filling next shell
