  • First of all, what kind of compound is CALCIUM OXIDE?

  • Calcium Oxide is an ionic compund which produces ions namely Ca^{+2}\:and\:O^{-2} in aqueous solution or in molten state.

  • These ions are charge carriers and hence are able to conduct electricity.

  • So, CaO can be used as an electrolyte to conduct electricity in aqueous solution or in molten state. But it doesn't conduct electricity in SOLID STATE.
