Why can dust be removed from a carpet by shaking it or beating it with stick?

because it follows law of inertia
particles are at rest so they are at rest only when carpet is beaten hence they are removed

dust can be removedfrom a carpet by shaking it or beating it with stick because according to newtons first law an object retains it inertia of rest or motion until and unless outer force is acted on it.....since the dust particle was in rest and suddenly the carpet was brought in motion the carpet moved but the dust particle retained its inertia of rest....
