Gases can be compressed more easily because the intermolecular spaces between gaseous particles is more than solid particles due to which it can easily be compressed.

This is because compression is all about bringing the particles of matter together and in case of solids particles are tightly packed and I is difficult to bring them together and in case of gases particles are loosely packed and can be compressed.
