Why can't a cotton garment keep us warmm in winter as wollen sweater does?

cotton doesnot keep us warm because cotton has a greater capacity of absorption of wet and fog of winter season.so it cannot keep us warm due to its absorption of wet.but sweater doesnot absorb like cotton.
