Why can't a snake and a rat live in the same hole

rat can't live with snake in the same hole because snake is an omnivorous animal so he can eat the rat to satisfy his hunger

Snake will eat the rat in normal condition. However, if someway they are separated such a way that snake cannot touch rat, they can live in same hole. Another case, if snakes are very small and rats are big, then also they may live in the same hole.
