Reproduction is a character of living organisms. But if we take it as a defining characteristics of living organisms, then organisms like mule, Ginny Tigrinya etc.
along with sterile human couples worker bees etc donor reproduce even though they are alive. Hence reproduction is not a defining characteristic of living organisms.
