Answer: sound requires matter to travel. As we know that sound is produced when an object vibrates, the object vibrates and pass the vibrations to the molecules of air which is matter and the vibrations keep on passing and then we can hear the sound.
In vacuum there is no air that is no matter for the vibrations and that is. Why we cannot hear the sound.
