Why can't we inhale when we swallow food?

because of the presence of epiglottis over food Pipe and wind pipe. when we eat food epiglottis covers the wind pipe and open the food pipe due to which we inhale when we swallow food

because if we do the air we breath will take our food along with it inside the lungs and this will certainly lead to horrificc.painful death
