first of all the stars twinkle which causes a slight nerve impact in the retina....to also mention we at the sa e time can see stars at the night as it is more clearly visible...when we look at things towards the dark it somehow shows a slight bit of a light...that is why the evening star is said to be more clearly visible than the other stars that twinkle in the night...its just like the effect...in the day when you try to look directly at the blue sky and the clouds you get an uncomfortable feeling in your eyes...
