Clinical thermometer has been designed to measure only human body because it various over a short range. It ranges from 35 degree Celsius to 42 degree Celsius which is appropriate for measuring temperature of human body because our temperature also lies within this range only.

But when it comes to measure the temperature of objects other than human body then clinical thermometer is not appropriate. Suppose if the temperature of the object is less than 35 degree or more than 42 degree Celsius then this thermometer will not work. Moreover high temperature can damage the electronics inside the thermometer.

Answer :

We cannot use a clinical thermometer to measure the temperature of objects because the range in a clinical thermometer varies only between 35°C to 42°C the temperature of the object might rise above this limit, thus a clinical thermometer can't be used for measuring the temperature of objects.
