why can the sun be seen below the horizon ?

that's because of atmospheric refraction.when the sun is below the horizon the rays enter the atmosphere and due to varying densities of earth's layers they reach our eye earlier than they should.that's why we see the sunrise before sun enters the horizon.similar is the case with sunset also.
