it's not true, the correct statement is tha t balanced force don't change the shape of objects because the force cancle each other

force can change the shape of any hard object but not of a soft object because it is compressible and hence can retain its original form but as a practical observation, force can change the shape of even a soft object(not to the extent of a hard object)
Eg. after stretching any elastic or blowing a balloon a number of times it expands a bit.
