When you’re living without a gallbladder, it can no longer store bile, as designed.Bile is a liquid that helps you digest fatty foods. The gallbladder releases it into your small intestine.

Humans can live without a gallbladder because bile will still be present in the small intestine, even without the storage that the gallbladder provides. In fact, gallbladders are often removed for one reason or another (including gallstones) in a surgical procedure called a cholecystectomy. People who have had their gallbladders removed may eventually develop a number of gastrointestinal problems.
