why can we use mercury as liquid in the thermometer but not water??

as mercury is only metal which is present in a liquid state .... and metals have the property to resist heat that water cannot

Because water may boil at 100°C. bt Not Mercury . Also , Mercury stays in its liquid form even at room temperature but water may evaporate.
