why can you not measure the volume of water in a measuring cylinder accurately unless you look straight at the scale

If you do not look directly straight into the scale, you will get different measurements each time. If you look down at an angle, the volume will look smaller, whilst if you look up at an angle, the volume of water will appear greater. Looking directly will allow you to get the correct measurements.
