why cannot we see a book which is placed in a dark room explain

as in dark room light absence and refractions &reflections absent so cone ,rodes in our eyes are unable to visualize it

We can see things due to the light that forms the image on our retinas, when we are in a dark room,light us not present,hence we can't see the book
