Answer:

A cell is the smallest functional and structural unit of life. It performs various function in our body. a unicellular organism can perform only few functions necessary for surviving. But a multicellular organism's cells perform various functions instead of only necessary works. For example - Humans have eyes. Our eyes have photoreceptor cells for vision but this is absent in amoeba which is a unicellular organism. Hence the various organs which helps us to study our environment are made of different types of cells. Hence, if we have a big cell it will not have the ability to perform all the activities necessary for us. And single cell did not needs to grow large because the organism consisting of single cell can survive as there body do not need to perform various functions like that of human being.

Hope it helps.
