In the day time, the light from Sun gets scattered in the atmosphere of earth. The brightness of the light is more than the brightness of the little light obtained from far off stars. This is the reason why we can't see stars in day time.
Even in night time, the bright cities don't get proper star filled sky. This happens because the light from earth gets scattered in the atmosphere (but with less brightness than the sun's light) and makes the light coming from stars faint. Most lights don't reach our eyes properly and a don't see much stars.
Pollution may also be respossible for it.
While in areas like centres of seas, and isolated islands and some areas devoid of artificial light you'll get a wonderful sky view. In some areas you can also see the Milky Way Galaxy. The light comming from it is faint and thus is visible at only some places.
Hope it will help you

In the day the starsare still there, but you cannotsee them because they are so much fainter than the sunlight that is scattered by our atmosphere. If the Earth had no atmosphere, then our daytimesky would be black like at night, except the sun would be a huge spotlight shining down at us.
