why cant you electroplate copper on gold

because gold over copper will tarnish!the copper diffuses into the gold to create an alloy and can appear spotty...usually a thick layer (sometimes of nickel plating)is applied between the two

we can't electroplate copper on gold because jeweler usually use gold or silver plating on cheap metals like copper and as gold and silver are expensive . though,gold and silver is electroplate on cheap metals if anybody electroplate copper on gold is fool.
