Who told you?

Carbohydrates  are breaked down in stomach and are absorbed by small intestine. Pepsin, an enzyme secreated by stomach helps in breaking down protein. Later on, in small intestine trypsin acts on proteins to break it completely. So, breakdown of carbohydrates and proteins occurs in stomach and absorption takes place in small intestine.

preeja19: fats
ay3633978: Fats are breaked down by lipase enzyme. Digestion of fat in the small intestine is helped by bile secreated by liver. Bile breaks the fat into small globules that are easier for the lipase enzymes to work on.
preeja19: why stomach digests partially
preeja19: ??
ay3633978: This is because the small intestine has role to digest and absorb nutrients from food completely. Stomach contains HCL, pepsin and mucus. So there partial digestion takes place and complete digestion occurs in small intestine where more secretion of various glands acts on food . That is why, small intestine is also called 'site of complete digestion'.
