why carbon can reduce lead oxide but not aluminum oxide. give reasons

Because lead oxide is placed below alluminium oxide in the reactivity series

Because         The oxidase numbers of carbon are more than aluminum, so carbon leads to carbon but the oxidase number of aluminum is less than carbon Therefore, lead oxide is not released immediately.
