why carbon can't be used to reduce the oxides of high reactive metal

Reduction is the removal of oxygen.. Carbon can be used to reduce the oxides of metals below aluminium in the Reactivity Series.However oxides of very reactive metals (eg Aluminium) cant be reduced by Carbon .Since they are very reactive they react with carbon to form their carbides hence are not effective in reduction.
