why carbon cannot form anion ?

Carbon is a tetravalent atom. It has to lose or gain four electrons to attain stability. But it is very difficult to lose or gain electrons as it requires a large amount of energy.

So, the element carbon shares electrons to achieve stability. As cations and anions are formed only when an atom loses or gains electrons, so carbon doesn't form any type of ions
