why carbon dioxide is used to remove hydrogen

It was used while filling Hydrogen gas and purge out of hydrogen gas only. For removing air in generator co2 used co2 is filled from bottom and from air was removed. The co2 avoids to catch fire. After reaching 99.9 purity of hydrogen we will stop drained co2.

This is Because Hydrogen Sulphide is very harmful even lethal and corrosive.(^_^)
