Answer:

carbon does not form ionic bonds because it has 4 valence electrons, half of an octet. To form ionic bonds, Carbon molecules must either gain or lose 4 electrons. ... In the end product, all four of these molecules have 8 valence electrons and satisfy the octet rule.

Answer:

Carbon is tetravalent. i.e. it has 4 electrons in it's valence shell and it valency is 4.

To form cation, carbon has to loose 4 electrons. carbon doesn't have so much of energy to loose 4 electrons. so it doesn't form any compound.

To form anion, carbon has to gain 4 electrons carbon doesn't have capacity to hold energy or 4 electrons.

Due to it's energy consideration, carbon doesn't form any compound........
