Answer:

Because it has 4 unpaired electron. To form a ionic bond it has to give 4 electron or receive 4 electron to fulfill its octate. But to do this much energy is required which has not. So it share its 4 electron and form covalent bond with other atom.

Answer:

If you are studying covalent bond, so I assume that you know about Ionic bond.

As we know that in the formation of Ionic compounds there is a transfer of electrons.

So, if carbon has to form ionic bond, it has to give its 4 electrons or have to take 4 electrons. But there is a problem in that, if carbon will take 4 electrons it will be very much difficult for 6 protons to hold 4 more electrons. And if carbon has to give its 4 electron, it will also be very difficult as it will require a large amount of energy.

So, in order to overcome these problems and to complete its valency it shares electrons with other element and from Covalent Bond.
