Carbon forms covalent bonds becausecarbon has an atomic number 6 and have 4 electrons in its octet so it can neither lose nor gain 4 electrons to complete it's octet so it forms covalent bonds by sharing it's 4 electrons and covalent bonds are more stronger than the ionic bonds…

Explanation:

Because it's valency is 4.

So, _It can't loose 4 electrons as protons have not so much affinity to lose electrons

_ It also can't gain 4 electrons as protons have not much capacity of taking them

Due to this reason it doesn't form ionic compounds .Instead ___ It share it's electrons with others and forms covalent bonds.
