Carbon is covalent bonding because carbon is a non-metals and it is only who can make their covalent bond.

it is because carbon has valency 4.
it can not lose 4 electrons as very high amount of energy would be required to lose these electrons to form c4+ ion
it can not gain 4 electrons as it would not be possible for 6 protons to hold 10 electrons due to interelectronic repulsion so it cant form c4- ion
so it forms covalent bond by sharing 4 electrons
