carbon is tetra valent bcoz
_____________________
carbon has 4 electrons in its outer most shell
so carbon cannot take 4 electrons as no body will give and carbon cannot give it's 4 electrons so CARBON shares it's 4 electrons to complete it's octet i.e 8 electrons so carbon is tetravalent. means 4.
