the reason for versatile nature of Carbon are:-
1. Catenation - it is the unique property of self linkage of carbon atom by means of covalent bond to form straight change or branch change or the ring of different sizes.
2. tetracovalency - due to a small size and presence of four valence electron carbon can form strong bond with other carbon atom hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and sulphur etc.
3. multiple bond formation - small size of carbon also enables it to for multiple Bond with other element as well as with its own atom. this increases the number of carbon compound.
4. Isomerism - the phenomenon by means of which the carbon compound with same molecular formula show different structure and property.

Carbon is a versatile element and is found in many different chemical compounds, including those found in space. Carbon is versatile because it can form single, double, and triple bonds. It can also form chains, branched chains, and rings when connected to other carbon atoms
