It actually helps the economy. I am giving this answer inspite of being in general category.
I am for reservation. Only if we can ensure growth of all sections of the society , we can have stable growth and a better economy.
Reservations are not wrong. Reservations on the basis of caste or tribe is also wrong but an economic slab has to come into place. We still need reservation. There are SCs and STs who still have not come out of social inequality. Economy must not be viewed in terms of just money. Economy is everything in a country. All its resources have a value. So growth of every individual in the country is the growth of the country. Hence reservation is not at all wrong. It is good in many ways.

On the face of it,most of us would like believe that Caste System is a social order only. The reason for this belief could be that,CS has been presented as a' social order' by the media and the official text books. But a critical look at the Caste System would lead us to doubt such a  conclusion.

The Caste System ,in essence ,is ' allocation of the' works/avocations' to each class concerned.Roughly it can be as under:

Tier            Class       %                  Area of Activity allotted

C 1             Priestly      5                   All  Spiritual /Educational

C2             Warrior     0.7*              Defence & Martial

C3             Business   64.                  Manufacture, Trade,Professions and related

C4              Servile     30%               Labour class serving the above three classes

Now the above allotment of' areas of activity' for each class is an indirect allotment of the related economic activities  of the areas and the income generated thereby.
