It abolished “untouchability”—the practice whereby others in society exclude so-called untouchables, or Dalits, as polluting—which has now mostly disappeared fromIndian society. Various laws forbid discrimination by caste.

It is due to the Reservations.
If people do not take forward the caste system then the people getting Reservations won't get the benefits of Reservations.
So in order to get the Benifits of Reservations caste system is still continued by progressed lower caste because they know the day there is no caste system there are no free Reservations for them.
The forward caste now has nothing to do with caste since it's of no use to them but the use of caste is done by lower caste to get benefits of Reservations.
so to abolish caste system Reservations should be made by one's economic conditions and not one the basis of caste understanding that poverty or hunger doesn't sees caste but it sees the person
