Why cation is smaller than its parent atom ???

because...on cation...no of electrons decrease...due to the transfer of electrons
...
thereby effrcive nuclear charge increases...and size decreases

due to increase in electron in the last orbital the inter nuclear charge increases
and is size of atom decreases.
