why ccl4 cannot react with water??

silicon and water both are the members of 14th group but Silicon tetrachloride react with water while carbon tetrachloride does not this is due to the fact that carbon does not have the orbitals to accept lone pairs of electrons from water while Silicon have vacant orbitals to accept lone pairs of electrons from water .

Because it's an organic compound . And organic compounds only reacts with organic solvents.
