Central Maharashtra receives little rainfall because Central Maharashtra fall under the rainshadow area of the Western Ghats. Whereas the coastal area of Maharashtra lies on the windward side of the western ghats. The Western Ghats obstruct the south west monsoon winds and makes the winds shed its moisture on the windward side of the Western Ghats.
