The law of inertia dictates that an object in motion will tend to remain in motion in a straight line. When an object is constrained such that it is forced into a circular path, inertia continues to exist, and the object appears to be under the influence of a force known as centrifugal force, which seems to make it pull away from the center of rotation. However there is no actual force pushing the object, hence centrifugal force does not really exist - it's just a convenient way of explaining why an object tends toward the outside of a circular path.
