These ridges and grooves are called gyri and sulci respectively.

  • They increase the surface area of the cortex for accommodation of more nerve cells in it .

So , increase in their number means increase in the number of nerve cells consequently increase in intelligence .

  • The number of these convolutions (ridges nd grooves) is different for different individuals and determines their intelligence or IQ
