why chana and rajma are soaked in water for 4-6 hours before cooking ?

Rinse the beans and then cook in fresh water. Soaking them in water will de-gas them. soaking will helps to reduce the time of cooking considerably and save energy.

it is soaked because it's too hard before after soaking it gets softer and we are able to eat.
